On Wednesday, October 7, the Maharashtra Cabinet conducted a meeting to make a decision about the resumption of educational institutes after the festivities in November instead of October 15, as directed by the Centre.

The decision was taken in wake of the current situation of the pandemic in the state. Schools and colleges have been closed since March as a result of the outbreak. The decision was taken by the Board of Education for the safety of the students. However, the central government has permitted all schools to operate from October 15.

On the other hand, even with the permission of the Center, all the ministers were of the view that schools should not be rushed in Maharashtra. Some ministers pointed out that students became infected with the coronavirus when schools and colleges were resumed in some countries.

Meanwhile, students are currently being educated online. Therefore, considering the prevalence of the pandemic in the state, schools are likely to resume after November 20, when the celebrations of Diwali are over.

Uday Samant, Minister of Higher Education and Technical Education informing the same also stated that he had directed educational institutions to halt the collection of development fees from students as there had been no physical classes for six months in these institutions.
