With the nationwide lockdown extended till May 3, Mumbai University has announced that they will be extending the interim summer break for their affiliated colleges till May 3, 2020. The announcement was made through a notice released on the official website of Mumbai University.

Earlier, the University had extended the summer break till April 14, 2020, but since the number of cases of COVID-19 in the country continue to rise, the government has extended the lockdown period. Following which, the university announced the new dates.

The circular released on the official websites reads, “The university plans to conduct exams once the lockdown is lifted, and the final call on this will be taken based on directions from the state and central government. For the time being, the interim summer break is being extended till May 3, 2020.”

The university also urged all the teaching staff working for affiliated colleges to continue to work from home by conducting online classes for the students, to ensure they don’t miss out on their studies during this period and their syllabus is completed.

The State Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Uday Samant directed all heads of the state university to devise an academic calendar for the year 2020-21. He also urged them to find a way to conduct exams to make sure the students can advance to their higher grade without any hassle.

The coronavirus outbreak has adversely affected the educational institutes who have been forced to extend their shutdown period. The state government earlier had to direct schools to conclude the academic year. Therefore, to ensure the students are able to study even amid the pandemic, teachers are being asked to conduct classes by the colleges.
