The Deputy Director of Education (Mumbai) has sought the revocation of NOCs (No-Objection Certificates) of seven non-state board schools as a handful of schools were accused of hiking fees and initiating action against students over non-payment of fees.
The Deputy Director of Education published a circular that read, “These schools increased their fee structures amid lockdown and forced parents to pay the fees. If anybody failed to pay fees, students were not given their results, or were barred from online learning access or were not promoted to the next class. This led to mental stress to children thus violating the RTE Act.”

The two branches of Billabong International School in Malad and Santacruz respectively could be prosecuted for denying online learning access to kids that were at the school under the RTE (Right to Education) Act.
Meanwhile, five schools in Navi Mumbai namely Amrita Vidyalayam (Nerul), New Horizon Public School (Airoli), Ryan International School (Sanpada), St. Lawrence School (Vashi), and Terna Orchids International School (Koparkhairane), and Vishwajyot High School (Kharghar) may also face action.
Confirming the development, Deputy Director of Education, Sandip Sangave said, “The proposals are sent through us after receiving such recommendations from local civic bodies. The Director of Education (Primary) in Pune will follow due process now.”
