Earlier, the state government had postponed the second merit list for degree courses. The decision came after the colleges cancelled the backward class reservation quota in degree courses. Even after a week of the announcement, there has been no decision regarding the second merit list which has left the students baffled and clueless.

Due to this, several backward class students were left devoid of admissions in reputed colleges and regarding the matter, they reached out to Education Minister Vinod Tawde.

The state government had put the second merit list on hold and had assured the students that they would appeal to the Supreme Court if necessary.

Usually, by the end of July, the academic year for the first-year (FY) students commences but this time, the condition is unclear for them. On July 2, the state government had filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) challenging the High Court’s November ruling.

The SLP is awaiting a hearing and many student unions are now awaiting the final verdict from the Supreme Court.
