Security concerns at Mumbai University library

SHARES

Kalina - The Kalina University has recently decided to keep its library open for all 24 hours. Though it seems good news for students, girls studying at the university are not at all happy. Most of the female students expressed that they are unable to use the library facilities after 8 pm.
Another student Shweta Dicholkar told Mumbai Live that there are neither street lights nor any CCTV cameras, so they cannot sit in the library beyond 8 pm. She further added that until the university offers them security facilities, they will be unable to use it in the late evenings.
The ABVP secretary Rohit Chandod admitted that the security amenities on the campus are inadequate. He said he is been insisting for the complete CCTV coverage for the Kalina university campus since 12 September 2014.
When Mumbai Live spoke to the University registrar M A Khan, he assured that efforts are being made to step up security arrangements at the campus. A committee has also been set up to recommend measures to ensure female students' safety in case they wish to use the library in the late evenings. However, till then, the girls are left to fend for themselves.
