In an effort to enhance early education and bridge the gap between pre-primary schools, the state government is taking significant steps to bring private kindergartens under the framework of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The initiative aims to establish a common curriculum for children attending anganwadis (state-run pre-primary schools) and private kindergartens, laying a strong foundation for their academic and personal growth.

Expansion of Anganwadis and Training for Teachers

To streamline the implementation process, the state government has decided to attach an additional 1,10,000 anganwadis to state-run primary schools. This move will enable children in these facilities to receive formal education alongside nutritious food and vaccinations. Anganwadi workers will undergo specialized training to deliver formal education, while teachers from primary schools will be involved in teaching children in anganwadis using a tailored curriculum.

Integration of Private Kindergartens

Under the new framework, private kindergartens will also be governed by the regulations set by the state government. A standardized curriculum will be provided to government or locally administered primary schools, which private kindergartens will now align with. The objective is to ensure consistency in educational content across all pre-primary institutions.

Training and Action Team Formation

In order to facilitate effective implementation, an action team has been formed under the leadership of the director of the Maharashtra State Education and Training Council. The team recently held a meeting in the presence of key officials from the school education department, discussing strategies for training teachers and devising appropriate guidelines.

Positive Impact and Stakeholder Involvement

Officials believe that this initiative will improve the quality of early education and create a seamless transition between anganwadis and primary schools. By providing formal education to children in anganwadis and private kindergartens, the state government aims to establish a strong educational foundation for their future endeavors. Stakeholders, such as the Early Childhood Association (ECA), have actively participated in discussions regarding the State Curriculum Framework (SCF) aligned with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), ensuring the guidelines developed are in accordance with national standards.

The state government's decision to integrate private kindergartens into the New Education Policy marks a significant step toward improving early education in the state. The efforts made by the government and stakeholders reflect a commitment to providing quality education to young learners.
