According to reports, the Government Law College in Mumbai finally has a permanent principal after 12 years after Asmita Vaidya from NBT Law College in Nashik took charge on Friday, March 5.

In a report by the Times of India, Vaidya was appointed in 2019, however, due to the assembly elections in the state and the outbreak of the coronavirus, the approval process got delayed by over a year and a half. Usually, two months are given to fresh appointees to take charge.

According to authorities, “Her pay scale had to be upgraded. And when a person is moving from an aided college to a government college, the pay scale revision requires certain approvals.”

On the other hand, the University of Mumbai (MU) had earlier urged colleges across the city to complete the Mumbai University examinations 2021 for PG courses by March 10. Moreover, along with concluding the examinations, the varsity has also asked the affiliated educational institutions to upload the scores on the university portal within five days. However, several teachers and students have opposed conducting the postgraduate examinations in less than one-and-a-month without finishing the mandatory 90-day teaching period.

However, according to the authorities, the colleges where the admission process has been delayed have been allowed to seek an extension from the varsity. Meanwhile, MU had permitted all affiliated colleges except the ones in the city to reopen from February 16 onwards. According to reports, the decision was taken by the University after it received confirmation letters from collectors of Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Thane rural, and other districts with MU-affiliated colleges.
