On Monday, April 25, Mumbai suburban guardian minister, Aaditya Thackeray inaugurated the new building of the first Medical College in Mumbai Suburbs - "Hinduhriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Medical College (HBTMC)" at the Dr. R.N. Cooper Hospital campus.
Thackeray believes that this building will nurture MBBS and PG students which invariably will further strengthen the state's medical infrastructure.

He took to Twitter to make this announcement and elaborated on how as a Guardian Minister, it is a moment of pride for him to have a "dedicated medical education facility in the suburbs that will groom future doctors, nurses and medical staff and also help bridge the gap between the doctor-patient ratio in BMC hospitals."
The cabinet minister further brought to light that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has five medical colleges in Mumbai, which he claims is the only municipal corporation to have so, in India.
According to reports, HBTMC is the fourth medical college of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) apart from the other three MCGM Medical Colleges established in the city.
Based on accounts, HBTMC provides training in undergraduate medical courses to nearly 200 students per year and postgraduate MD/MS and DNB courses in certain specialities. In addition to this, it reportedly also imparts practical training in medical laboratory technology, nursing and observerships in different specialities.
