According to sources, a Home Ministry official stated that after facing backlash, and reconsideration demands regarding the JEE and NEET examinations, rethinking the examination dates was on the cards.

However, Higher Education Secretary, Amit Khare, denied all such conjecture.

Meanwhile, Greta Thunberg, the Swedish activist, expressing her solidarity with the students in India, took to Twitter to speak about the NEET and JEE exam row calling the situation 'deeply unfair'.

Moreover, political leaders have also joined the protests and demanded the postponement of the examinations. In view of the pandemic, along with the monsoons and subsequent floods, several leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, and even Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subramanian Swamy have appealed to the Centre with the demands of students. Swamy had earlier written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to postpone NEET/JEE and other competitive examinations till Diwali at least.

On the other hand, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has listed certain guidelines that should be followed in order to safely conduct medical and engineering entrance examinations NEET and JEE in the month of September. While the JEE examination is touted to be held between September 1 to 6, the NEET examination is scheduled for September 13.
