The National Testing Agency (NTA) has listed certain guidelines that should be followed in order to safely conduct medical and engineering entrance examinations NEET and JEE in the month of September.

While the JEE examination will be held between September 1 to 6, the NEET examination is scheduled for September 13.

The steps that the NTA is touted to take are expanding the number of examination centres, alternate seating plan, fewer candidates per room and staggered entry and exit. These rules are being introduced keeping in view the ongoing pandemic in a bid to adhere to the social distancing norms.

While the candidates for JEE Main are touted to be seated in alternate seats, the number of candidates per room in the NEET exam will be 12 instead of 24. Moreover, the entry and exit of candidates shall be staggered. The candidates have also been issued an advisory on proper social distancing. Also, the NTA has written to the state governments to extend support for ensuring that the candidates are able to reach their exam centres on time.

Earlier, there was a rise in criticism on the decision to conduct the NEET and JEE examinations. However, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition filed by 11 students to defer the examinations in view of the pandemic.
