In the latest National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 edition, the University of Mumbai (MU) has fallen from the top 100 higher education institutions in India to the 101–150 range. In the university category, MU has slipped from 56th to 61st.
The NIRF ranking started in 2015 with the goal of ranking Indian institutes according to several criteria. Some of the criteria are "Graduation Outcomes," "Outreach and Inclusivity," "Research and Professional Practices," and "Teaching, Learning, and Resources." The universities are evaluated by the Union Ministry of Education.
The top two positions in the overall rankings are the same as last year, with IIT Madras and IISc Bangalore holding the top spots. The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) took over IIT Delhi, moving from fourth to third place overall.
