According to the latest reports, the Maharashtra School Education Department is looking to put up a proposal that Urdu medium schools recognized till grade 7 be permitted recognition till grade 12. School Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad gave a directive to this effect after a meeting with officials from the minority development department.

Based on accounts, the information given by Gaikwad's office stated that the proposal will be based on schools as well as areas where such extension approval is viable with immediate effect.

Apart from this, Urdu medium schools will be made part of bilingual operations in schools across Maharashtra where the utilization of functional English language will be made compulsory in non-English medium schools, cited narratives.

The idea is to see that popular English words and terminologies be introduced to students enabling the ease of comprehension in higher education. In the first project, commencing in the next academic year, Gaikwad has told the officials from the education department to provide Urdu medium schools with books in both languages.

However, certain narratives claim that dropping out from Urdu medium schools is not owing to lack of higher classes but increase in demand for English medium learning as well as restricted employment opportunities.
