Mumbai's Kartikey Gupta from Alpha Junior College in Vile Parle bagged an All India Rank (AIR) 1 in JEE Advanced 2019. He scored 346 out of a total of 372 marks and wishes to pursue his studies in IIT-Bombay. In his HSC, he scored 93.7 per cent and 100 percentile in JEE Main 2019 January examination and was state topper for Maharashtra.

The last topper from Mumbai was Yashodan Kanoria in 2005 who is currently a professor at Columbia University. Tulip Pandey was the topper among girls in Mumbai with AIR 79. Out of 1.61 lakh students who appeared for IIT-JEE, 38,705 have been qualified.

Kartikey shifted to Mumbai along with his parents to give an impetus to his studies. He considers mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan as his idol. Notably, he has also qualified for INPHO, INCHO, INAO and INJSO as well as KVPY in 2017 and 2018.
