Government postpones MPSC exams; revised dates yet to be announced

The MPSC examination was scheduled to be held on October 11, however, due to the increasing cases of COVID19, officials decided to keep safety first and not put the students at the risk of infection.

CM Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray-led government, on Friday, October 9, 2020, took a big decision regarding the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exams, and after thorough discussions with the associated members and departments, the government has decided to postpone the State Service Board exam.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, in a press conference. confirmed the same and said that the MPSC exam was postponed. The decision was implemented after several students requested the ministry to postpone the same, due to the coronavirus outbreak and the pandemic. Observing the scenario, the ministry took these requests into consideration.

As per reports, Vinayak Mete, the founder of Shiv Sangram Sanghatana, had called a meeting with the CM to postpone the MPSC exam and the state government was criticized after the Supreme Court's decision on Maratha Reservation.

The MPSC examination was scheduled to be held on October 11, however, due to the increasing cases of COVID19, officials decided to keep safety first and not put the students at the risk of infection. Besides this, several students who were expected to appear for the exams have also been infected with the virus. 

Chhatrapati Udayan Raje and Sambhaji Raje had posted on social media about Maratha reservation and MPSC and had demanded to postpone the examination, stating that the youth would face a huge loss if the MPSC exam had held on October 11, 2020. Criticising the government, the asked for the reason behind the hurry to fill 15,000 seats immediately after the court postponed the Maratha reservation. 

The Maharashtra Chief Minister's Office also took to Twitter to share the message, which read, "Maharashtra Public Service Commission has decided to postpone the State Service Pre-Examination-2020 scheduled on 11-10-2020. Chief Minister Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray said that the candidates appearing for this examination will be able to give exams again on the revised dates and no one will be disqualified. The revised schedule of this examination will be announced separately by the State Service Commission."
