Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Maharashtra have declined over the last few days and considering the same, officials from the education department have sent a proposal to the Chief Minister seeking permission to start colleges offline. As per reports, the proposal was drafted by the Department of Higher and Technical Affairs and information regarding the same was shared by Minister Uday Samant.

It is being said that the department is willing to reopen the colleges across the state, however, the decision will be taken only if the approval is given by CM Uddhav Thackeray.

Meanwhile, school across the state will start from Monday, January 24, 2022. However, no decision has been taken yet to start colleges even though vaccination of all citizens above 18 years of age is underway. The department is awaiting the approval for the same post which an official announcement will be made by the government.

Furthermore, Minister Samant said that the Department of Higher and Technical Education is focused on conduction all the exams online till February 15, 2022. During the previous waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, the classes conducted online for two years was observed as a loss for the students, and in the third wave, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government has again closed schools and colleges.

The vaccination of school and college students between the age group of 15 to 18 years has started in the state and across the country, and the government has allowed these citizens to visit other establishments like malls, shopping complexes, theatres, etc., but the schools and colleges are being closed which is putting the future of students in the dark. Ministers from the opposition parties have observed this point and slammed the government. Santosh Shetty has warned that the MVA that it should immediately start schools and colleges by January 26, 2022, failing which BJP workers will take to the streets along with teachers and students.

Meanwhile, the government has decided that in addition to classes 1-12, schools for pre-primary will also start from next Monday. School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad had informed that CM Uddhav Thackeray had given permission to reopen the schools which were closed due to the outbreak of Omicron.
