According to the latest reports, the Directorate of Education has proposed a timeline for the commencement of summer vacations as well as the new academic year in Maharashtra.

If the proposal is approved, schools throughout the state could close for summer vacations on May 2 and commence the new academic year on June 13.

However, final approval is awaited from the Mantralaya. On Thursday, March 31, the primary and secondary directors of education sent the signed proposal to the principal secretary.

The proposal reportedly elaborates on how in order to bring uniformity in the school’s academic year throughout the state, it is necessary to issue a government resolution (GR) or circular about the summer vacations and the commencement of the next academic year.

On the other hand, for Vidarbha, the recommendation is to commence the academic year from June 27 owing to the high temperatures, narratives remarked.

The proposal also suggests that in the future the reopening of schools in Maharashtra should always be on the second Monday of June, while that in Vidarbha should be the fourth Monday of June.

It has been reported that the proposal goes on to recommend that district-level education officers could curtail summer or Diwali vacations if there is a local demand to increase holidays for Christmas or Ganpati.

While considering all this, it should be ensured that the aggregate holidays aren’t over 76 days.
