In the aftermath of the Maharashtra government, releasing a circular on extending the academic calendar, on Tuesday, March 29, the recently appointed state education commissioner Suraj Mandhare asked schools to continue with their April schedule for exams and results, if they have completed their curriculum, reports stated.
Mandhare was quoted in narratives elucidating how schools that haven't completed their curriculum owing to the COVID-19 restrictions can operate full time in April. However, those that have finished their syllabus can follow their usual academic schedule. He reportedly added that vacations have not been cancelled.
The earlier GR released by the government asked schools as well as junior colleges to conduct full-time classes for grades one to nine and 11 of the state board till April 30. The GR also asked schools to operate full days on Saturdays. The said GR elaborated on how grade 1 to 9 and 11 exams should be conducted in the third week of April. Apart from this, the results should be declared by May.
According to accounts, in lieu of this GR the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday, March 28 also withdrew its previous circular that detailed yearly academic holidays that entailed summer vacations from May 2 to June 11 for schools in Mumbai. This had upset students and parents alike since the school break was altered.
