The Maharashtra government is set to introduce 'cluster schools' to address a number of issues that have been affecting the quality of education in the state.

This move aims to improve educational opportunities for kids and address teacher shortages.

More than 4,500 schools with less than 20 students enrolled will be consolidated, and children from different schools will be accommodated in a single school.

This approach is expected to address the infrastructure issues and teacher shortages in these schools, as well as improve the quality of education and overall development of children.

The education commissioner recently raised the issue with school education minister Deepak Kesarkar at a workshop in Amby Valley. Currently, there are 4,895 schools with 8,226 teachers and about 50,000 students in the state. However, the small number of students presents challenges to their quality of education and overall development.

The use of 'cluster schools' will be expanded statewide after a successful pilot operation in the Pune district's vicinity of Panshet. The government is also considering paying for transport costs for pupils to ensure that they can easily attend the cluster schools.

The Maharashtra government has a responsibility to provide education for all students. The education administration is looking to improve the quality of education and ensure overall development of children.
