In a landmark move to transform Maharashtra into a global education hub, the state government, under its “Mumbai Rising – Creating an International Education City” initiative, formally granted Letters of Intent (LOIs) to five internationally acclaimed foreign universities to establish campuses in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
The five prestigious institutions awarded LOIs are:
University of Aberdeen (United Kingdom)
University of York (United Kingdom)
University of Western Australia (Australia)
Illinois Institute of Technology (United States)
Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) (Italy)
These universities will set up independent campuses in the upcoming International EduCity being developed by CIDCO in Navi Mumbai. The campuses will offer globally recognized programs with academic, administrative, and financial autonomy, aiming to provide students across India an opportunity to access international-level education locally.

Transforming Maharashtra’s Educational Landscape
Under the guidance of the Maharashtra government, the International EduCity project seeks to foster multicultural exchange, attract global talent, and create new avenues for research, innovation, and collaboration. The campuses will adhere to high global standards while offering tuition that is approximately 25% lower than studying abroad, making quality international education more accessible.
The project is also expected to contribute significantly to regional development, by boosting local infrastructure, generating employment opportunities, and positioning Maharashtra as a leading destination for international academic collaboration.
