According to the latest reports, from March 15, the mid-day meal scheme will recommence in its original form in all schools across Maharashtra. On Tuesday, February 22, a certificate was issued by the Directorate of School Education in regards to the same. 

The notification referred to the growing demand for hot cooked meals in schools by social activists, educationists as well as local leaders. It highlighted that they have proposed to commence offering cooked meals in schools from March 15 while following COVID-19 protocol.

The note added that an order will be made to local administrations to make the necessary arrangement for the same. Additionally, the note remarked that the central government has already approved the serving of cooked meals in schools by means of the mid-day meals.

Earlier narratives were doing the rounds that mid-day meals were missing from schools that have commenced offline operations since last month. The note reportedly elucidated that an aggregate of 1.02 crore students from 85,761 schools is benefitted by means of the mid-day meal scheme. 

Additionally, accounts have quoted, Dinkar Temkar, Director of School Education (Primary) elaborating on how even while schools had reopened earlier, owing to the rise in coronavirus cases in December-January resulted in their closing. Temkar uttered that the impact continued till early February, thus with altering conditions, the decision was undertaken.
