Mumbai University has a very rich educational heritage. Keeping the tradition of excellence, in the future, the university should create a precedent in front of other universities by effectively implementing the National Education Policy. Governor and Chancellor Ramesh Bais appealed that Mumbai University should rank among the top ten universities in the country in the next ten years.


The annual convocation ceremony of the University of Mumbai, which has entered its 167th year of establishment, concluded on Wednesday (February 7) in the presence of Governor Bais at Sir Cowasji Jehangir Convocation Hall of the University, who was speaking at the time.



The governor suggested that the university should make a radical change in the administration and create a better system to solve the problems of the students and that the university should adopt villages and involve the students in social activities. In order to provide skill education to the youth, the Governor said that Mumbai University should work with State Skill University and encourage entrepreneurship and innovation. The governor also suggested that the university should connect the former students with the development and expansion work of the university.


Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Dada Patil said that he has studied in Siddhartha College and is a graduate of Mumbai University and said that the education sector will be energised due to the national education policy. Stating that students should be educated in their mother tongue, he said that the candidates would be given German language education to take advantage of the employment opportunities available in Germany. 



Patil urged all the universities to cooperate with each other while implementing the educational policy saying that the use of technology should be increased in pre-primary to post-graduate teaching. He said that in the next few years, it is aimed to increase the number of students enrolled in universities in the state to 50 lakhs. He also appealed to Mumbai University to try to be among the top 100 universities in the world.

University Grants Commission Chairman M Jagdish Kumar said that the state of Maharashtra is making efforts to effectively implement the National Education Policy and the universities in the state are also in the forefront of creating small-scale 'group universities'. Jagdish Kumar said that the new generation should embrace the adventure and innovation of AI. He said that the scientist JC Bose carried out radical research in the field of plant physiology with courage and innovation, and asked the students to follow Bose's example. He said that the participation of all social groups such as youth, women, farmers and the poor is important to make a developed India.


Degrees were awarded to 1 lakh 51 thousand 648 graduates in the convocation ceremony. 428 graduates from various faculties were awarded Vidyavachaspati (Ph.D) degrees. 24 medals were awarded to 21 students who excelled in various examinations.


Former Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik, who was awarded the Padma Bhushan this year, and Dr. Zaheer Kazi and Uday Deshpande, who were awarded the Padma Shri, were present as special invitees.
