The University of Mumbai (MU) has approved a budget of INR 857 crore for the fiscal year 2024–25 on March 23. The decision was made during the annual senate meeting presided over by Ravindra Kulkarni. The goal is to improve quality, diversity, and excellence, regardless of an INR 121.6 crore deficit.

The budget includes several key projects aimed at improving the culture of research and innovation. It also encourages globalisation in higher education and supports education for global citizenship. 

Efforts have been made to enhance alumni participation, university-industry relationships, and student support services. This is in line with Mumbai university's objective of holistic development.

Most important budget allocations of Mumbai University's budget for the year 2024-25 are:

1. Infrastructure projects like the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Research Centre, the construction of Class III and IV quarters with a community hall, and the development of the Vengurla Sub Campus.

2. Funds are set aside to celebrate academic success through programmes like the Best Teacher Award and awards like the Savitribai Phule Adarsh Shikshika Award. 

3. The budget also includes digital projects for digitising records. This includes making the university's data storage cloud-based, and implementing paperless governance. 

4. The budget also has measures for encouraging social responsibility with programmes like blood donation drives.

5. INR 30 crore has been given for the institution's master plan. These include making all of the campuses handicapped-accessible, improving academic workspace, upgrading infrastructure.

6. Campus will also see modern day additions like implementing carbon-neutral green campus initiatives, and upgrading sports facilities to Olympic standards.
