Mumbai University releases a helpline number for exam queries, admissions and other assistance

On Tuesday, May 12, 2020, The University of Mumbai released a helpline number and email address with an aim to help students who are in need of counselling. This decision was taken keeping the recommendation from the University Grants Commission(UGC) in mind. Students can use these to get assistance regarding University Examination queries and also other concerns related to coronavirus pandemic.

Officials said that the students' queries related to exams and admissions will be provided by the team and they can call between 11 am and 5 pm on 96190 34634 and 93737 00797 or write an email to examhelpline@mu.ac.in. Students enrolled under the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) can send their queries to info@idol.mu.ac.in. 

Authorities are also preparing scheduled for the upcoming examinations and the admissions for the new academic year 2020-21, and the plan of action will be announced soon.

As per the recent announcement, Uday Samant on Facebook LIVE stated that the examinations for first and second-year students were cancelled keeping the coronavirus outbreak in mind. Their results will be based on the aggregates and the protocol decided by the UGC. However, final year students will have to appear for the exams which will be scheduled in July. But a decision regarding the same will be taken after June 20, based on the coronavirus situation in the state. 

Students showed their displeasure and shared their messages on social media demanding the cancellation of exams. Youth wing of Shiv Sena, Yuva Sena, also supported the students and wrote to the UGC considering the request, stating that the students are under pressure to prepare for the exams during the lockdown and they are also worried about the conditions in which examinations will be conducted.
