Mumbai University Offers Financial Relief To Its Students

Costs for several campus facilities and fees have been curtailed. Additionally, if a student has lost either one or both parents to the coronavirus, they will receive a 100% fee waiver.

For the academic year 2021-22, Mumbai University is offering a range of financial assistance to its students. According to reports, those looking to get themselves admitted into an undergraduate college in Mumbai University will gain by nearly Rs 1,700. This is because costs for several campus facilities and fees have been curtailed. Additionally, if a student has lost either one or both parents to the coronavirus, they will receive a 100% fee waiver.

On Thursday, the first day of admissions at Mumbai University, a total of 52,040 applications were recorded.

Auxiliary charges have significantly been reduced, whilst aided college tuition of Rs 800 and Rs 3,000-6,000 for unaided courses, hasn’t been changed.

After a statement was made by Uday Samant, the higher and technical education minister, a circular was released. The minister asked the universities to reduce the fees as individuals were facing the financial repercussions of the covid-19 pandemic.

Apart from tuition fees, other fees have also been reduced. From 100% lowering of library and laboratory deposit, caution fee, student welfare fund, magazine fee and industrial visit, to 50% reduction of extra-curricular, library, laboratory and gymkhana, has also been announced, cite reports. Exam fees have too been reduced by 25%.

On other hand, if colleges have carried out exercises under the extra-curricular domain, they must gather 50% of the said fees. Those, that haven’t can charge in the said criteria. Reports also elucidate that if a college has published an online magazine, 25% of the magazine fees can be collected, those that haven’t, can’t.

The circular also elaborated that if students begin attending classes in person, fees for certain services such as hostels will be charged to students of different levels of study and streams at the affiliated colleges.

In other developments, students from regions that were hit by the devastating floods will receive their convocation certificates, mark sheets and other documents for free.

Based on reports, T A Shiware, chairman of, Association of Non-Government Colleges, has mentioned that colleges have been asked to acknowledge fees paid in instalments.
