Ministry of Human Resource Development released a list highlighting the top 100 universities in India and Mumbai University’s name is absent from the list. However, only four colleges of Mumbai University were in the list with eight universities of Maharashtra.

According to the list carried out by HRD ministry, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore got the first place and Mumbai’s Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) got 19th place in the list. Others institutions in Mumbai which can be seen under the top 100 ranking are – Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) got 26th place, Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) with 32nd, and Narsee Monjee Institute of Management in 55th place.

In the list, Mumbai’s St. Xavier’s College has been placed at the 74th position but Mithi Bai College in Vile Parle has been kept out of the list.

Maharashtra’s Savitribai Phule University is placed at 9th position and Pune’s Symbiosis University at 44th position, in the list of top 100 colleges. Dr. DY Vidyapeeth and Pune’s Bharti Vidyapeeth got the 52nd and 62nd position in the list, respectively.
