Three final year students of Bachelor of Law (LLB) - Abhishek Bhat, Sachin Pawar and Ravishekhar Pandey - moved to High Court regarding Mumbai University's delay in results. They filed the petition on August 19 and the hearing took place on August 22. Other than this, there were other two petitions which were filed by the students of B.Com, BSc, Engineering. The petition filed by the law students got the separate hearing. They demanded that the Mumbai University should declare the results of a final year of LLB students who are not able to pursue higher education. Though the University sought time to respond until Monday, the petitioners asked to do it on Thursday.

The division bench consisting of Anoop Mohta and Bharti Dangre, heard the petitions filed by the students. The counsel appearing for the petitioners argued that all the authorities were alive to the gravity of the situation in the first week of July 2017, and still they waited until the 3rd week of August 2017 to set up a war room.

“Our third petitioner Ravishankar Pandey wanted to go abroad for higher studies, but couldn't. Likewise, I wanted to pursue LLM but cannot enroll as I don't have ‘Sannat’ and my results are not out and the another petitioner Sachin Pawar wanted the same. We also want HC to order High Commission inquiry which will comprise of retired SC and HC judge who will probe in this matter” Abhishek Bhat

Bhat added that the University took time to assess the papers as they have mixed up the supplements. He also said that it hired lawyers to check the papers as there were no professors. They have mixed up the settlements. The petition also sought the resignation of VC Sanjay Deshmukh and pleaded to hire a permanent VC.

Approximately, 1,00,000 law students including juniors are suffering due to the delayed results.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old student Sudyumna Nargolkar sought a declaration of results of B.A., B.Com, and B.Sc. Courses. He has appeared for B.Com and wishes to pursue the three-year LLB course but cannot do anything until the results are out. Meanwhile, he had appeared for the Common Entrance Examination (CET) for the LLB course which was held on May 23 and secured 101 of 150 marks. However, to his respite, the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test cell has extended the deadline to August 31 where in students can apply to the Mumbai University's law courses.
