The University of Mumbai (MU) is said to soon offer an engineering course in Marathi. On Tuesday, June 29, the academic council of MU cleared all the proposals with regards to the new initiatives that are to be undertaken by the university.

According to reports, undergraduate commerce subjects will have credits for research. Moreover, new subjects such as blockchain, artificial intelligence and machine learning will figure in the fresh course offerings.

The new academic calendar which began on June 14 will have the first term ending on October 30 in view of festivals such as Ganeshotsav and Diwali. In addition, the second term would begin on November 15 and close on May 1, with a break during Christmas. Furthermore, the academic session of 2022-23 will start from June 12, 2022.

Meanwhile, even though MU had requested all affiliated colleges to resume the new academic year virtually from June 14, colleges are waiting for clarity on fee payment issues.

Amidst the outbreak of the coronavirus back in 2020, the university had requested colleges to cut down their original fee structure and make an instalment facility available for students in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this year, MU has given no such direction and the officials reportedly feel that it will be impossible to run the institutions without full fees for another consecutive year.

Moreover, several colleges are yet to reopen institutions in order to accommodate students who are to pay the fees so that no one misses the classes once the college reopens.
