The city of Mumbai faced an unprecedented power outage after several years which resulted in the rescheduling of all the major examinations that were to take place on Monday, October 12.

The final-year examinations which were scheduled to be conducted today have now been shifted to October 18, 2020, now following the crippled status of electricity in the city of Mumbai.

However, the students have been informed that the timings of the examinations are to remain the same. The final year exams in the varsity had earlier begun from October 1, 2020. The final-year examinations which are of fifty marks are being conducted in an online mode in view of the pandemic. Moreover, the questions happen to be multiple-choice questions. As per reports, as many as 2,47,500 students are appearing for the examinations this year. In addition, colleges this year have been asked to give the students grace marks, as per the latest circular issued by the varsity.

Earlier in the day, in an unfortunate scenario, due to grid failure, there was a power outage in the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) on Monday. Power supply to Thane, Kalyan, Palghar and Navi Mumbai was disrupted due to sudden technical failure at Mahatrans' Kalwa-Padgha GIS centre. The power outage also hit Mumbai's suburban railway system.
