Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, speaking about the NEET examinations informed that an announcement on the medical entrance examination date could be made in the next 10-15 days.
Last year, the examinations were held on September 13 after being postponed twice due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. Moreover, a total of 7,71,500 candidates had qualified for the exam, for which over 13.66 lakh appeared.
As per reports, addressing queries related to syllabus and dates of NEET exam, the education minister reportedly stated that the schedule for NEET (UG) 2021 is currently being finalized in consultation with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the National Medical Commission (NMC). Speaking about the syllabus, Pokhriyal said that it will remain the same as the previous year. "In terms of mode of conduct of examination, online and offline, the Health Ministry and NMC are being consulted in this regard," he added.
Meanwhile, the test was offered in 11 languages last year namely, English, Urdu, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Odia, Marathi, Kannada, Gujarati, Tamil and Telugu. Setting in place strict standard operating procedures in view of the pandemic, the testing agency had reduced the number of candidates per room from the earlier 24 to 12. The number of centres was increased from 2,546 in 2019 to 3,862 in order to ensure crowd management and staggered entry and exit protocols.
On the other hand, earlier on December 22, during a live address, Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal informed that the CBSE board examinations 2021 will not be conducted in the months of January and February in view of the pandemic. However, he ensured that the Class 10 and 12 board examinations are not cancelled but a schedule will be decided after February 2021.
