15-day event to be organised across Maharashtra to celebrate Marathi language

Directions have been given by the state government to the respective local bodies to organise the same between January 14-28, 2021. Various activities are being planned for the same.

In a recently held event, officials from the state government and the local body decided to celebrate Marathi language and focus towards preserving the culture, through an event, which will be organised for a fortnight. As per reports, the same will be organised throughout the state between January 14-28, 2021.

Officials have planned various activities related to the Marathi language for the entire course of the event and the same will be implemented across the state. Information regarding the same has been given by District Collector Rajiv Nivatkar who has also instructed the concerned departments to organize various activities in the city of Mumbai.

Discussions regarding the same were held at a meeting organized at the Collectorate regarding the Marathi language fortnight program. Present at the occasion were Resident Deputy Collector Sadanand Jadhav and Deputy District Election Officer Madhav Patil.

Preliminary discussions were held on organizing various activities as per the directions of the ruling in this regard through the District Library, Asiatic Library, Sahitya Sangh, Mumbai as well as SNDT University Marathi Department, National Service Scheme, Municipal Education Department etc. Besides this, activities like book exhibitions with Marathi literature, online lectures, competitions, felicitation of dignitaries and eminent persons in the field, e-books will be organized, the District Collector said.

Other members present during the discussion include Balaporia of Asiatic Society, Shashikant Kakad - District Library Officer, Subhash Bhagwat of Sahitya Sangha, Sachin Kedar - Assistant Manager, Government Printing Press and other concerned officials.

Besides this, the government's Sahitya and Sanskriti Mandal and Vishwa Marathi Parishad, in December 2020, jointly organized free writing workshops for new writers on various topics such as stories, poetry, research, translation and blog writing.
