For the past several months, the Maharashtra state government has been ignoring the demands of the English-medium schools across the state. In response, the Federation of School Association of Maharashtra (FSAM) has decided to protest and the English-medium schools in the state will remain closed on February 25, Monday.

However, the protest will not affect the students appearing for exams as FSAM has decided that no exam schedules will be affected due to the protest.

The association has protested that the government has not been paying the 25 per cent fees of the students from financially weaker sections. Therefore, they have demanded that the 25 per cent programme by the government must be shut down immediately as they are irregular in making the payment for the same.

The association wants the government to pay the English-medium schools the 25 per cent fees the state government is obliged to pay under Right to Education (RTE) between 2012 and 2019. However, as the government has paid no heed to their demands, the association has decided to keep all the English-medium schools shut for a day.
