The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has taken a step to alleviate the ongoing seat allocation issue by approving 1,000 seats in 8 medical colleges. The second round of medical admissions will now include these seats. The seats are distributed among eight medical colleges, including one private dental college and six private and one government medical colleges.

This decision comes in response to the frustration among students and parents who were facing a lack of undergraduate (UG) seats during the first round of the state's Common Entrance Test (CET) selection process.

The first round of seat allocations was released by the state CET cell on August 4. Nearly 1,000 medical seats were absent from the selection list. It triggered unrest among aspiring medical students. This meant that many students had chosen seats based on the provided seat matrix, only to find them missing.

The CET Cell then explained that the seats were not available since these colleges were still seeking MUHS approval. This pointed to a communication gap that caused students to rely on an incomplete dataset. On August 7, it was announced that all of the colleges had received the go-ahead.

Dr. Milind Nikumbh, MUHS's pro vice chancellor, stated that these institutions did not have the requirement for affiliation due to insufficient number of professors. Despite these issues, college representatives have assured in affidavits that they would quickly work to meet the requirements. After this all colleges had been given approvals.

In a circular announcement, the state CET cell declared the availability of an additional 1,000 seats in the upcoming round two of seat allocation. However, some students remain apprehensive. They fear that their chances in round one were compromised due to the absence of seats.

Here is the list of colleges and their respective seats:

Terna Medical College, Navi Mumbai - 150
