Rajendra Shinde will be the 24th principal of the college and his appointment is also coinciding with the landmark of 150th year of the institution.

It’s a year of milestones for St Xavier’s College, for the college is going to appoint its first non-Christian principal in 150 years of its existence. The designation is to be held by Rajendra Shinde, who is currently the head of the college’s Botany department.

Shinde (55), a Nerul resident, has been associated with St. Xavier’s for the last 35 years. He will assume charge as the 24th principal of the institution on September 1, 2018. He had remained a herbarium curator at the college for almost 10 years since 1983, after which he went on to become the Vice-Principal in 2011. His appointment is coinciding with the landmark of completion of 150 years of the college.

Hailing from a modest railway employees’ household from Nashik, Shinde has completed his primary education in the only school in Odha village, Nashik. He moved to Mumbai in 1978 to pursue his junior college from St. Stanislaus and completed BSc in botany in 1983. Having joined St Xavier’s as a herbarium curator, he simultaneously pursued his Masters in Science. Shinde has worked on various academic and non-academic bodies at the college since 1991.
