After some student organisations filed a complaint to Mumbai University administration, Maharashtra State Women Commission issued a notice to poet Dinkar Manwar and Mumbai University over the objectionable content of Manwar’s poem - ‘Paani Kasa Asta’ (the nature of water). The poem talks about Adivasi women in an obscene light.

The state Women Commission sent a notice to Mumbai University too for including the poem in its curriculum for third-year arts students. The students organisations objected and expressed their disappointment over the same while protesting. The commission has asked Manwar to appear before them on October 20 and provide an explanation regarding the same.

There is a collection of Dinkar Manvar’s poems in the curriculum for Art students. Many have objected against his poem over the reference of the breasts of a tribal girl. In September, the members of Shramjeevi Sanghatana protested outside Maharashtra Education Minister Vinod Tawde’s residence over the same.

After that, earlier on September 29, MU issued a circular informing that the poem has been removed from its syllabus and directed not to teach the same in the classrooms. The circular also said that no questions related to the poem will be asked in the examination.
