The postgraduate students of Mumbai University (MU) have been complaining about the need to submit applications for the semester examinations by December 28, 2020 in-person amidst the outbreak of the coronavirus and the subsequent lockdown across the city.
However, as per reports, a spokesperson for the varsity’s examination department stated that the applications for examinations are submitted by the colleges to the university through an online portal. “A particular department or college may have asked students to submit applications physically,” added the official. On the other hand, the examinations for undergraduate students are underway at colleges at the moment.
Due to the pandemic, the winter semester exams for both the undergraduate and postgraduate students are being conducted online. According to the university’s instructions, the examinations for arts, science and commerce students are being held for 60 marks in multiple-choice question format.
Meanwhile, earlier on Wednesday, December 2, the Bombay University and College Teachers’ Union (BUCTU) requested the vice-chancellor of Mumbai University to postpone the first-year degree college exams.
According to sources, the degree college teachers have suggested that the first-year examinations be postponed to end of January 2021, adding that that the university release an official circular as soon as possible. This comes in less than two weeks after the organisation, in their previous letter, claimed that several colleges have not managed to teach the mandatory 90 days before the examinations a result of the delay in admissions to first-year courses which makes it impossible to hold the examinations in the month of December.
