In view of the pandemic, the State Examination Planning Committee has reportedly been considering the recommendation to keep the pass criteria for standard 10th and 12th to 25 per cent.

Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus and the subsequent lockdown, classes were held for a very short period in the 2020-21 session due to which the committee has set up a planning department to decide the nature of the examinations that are to be held from April 23 to May 21 for the 12th standard and from April 29 to May 20 for the 10th standard.

According to sources, the committee is chaired by State Board President Dinkar Patil, Vasant Kalpande and other experts. Furthermore, Patil has clarified that since it is not possible to take online exams for 30 lakh students, board examinations for standard 10th and 12th will be held offline.

On the other hand, Maharashtra Minister of School Education Varsha Gaikwad had earlier appealed to the students to come forward and take the offline examinations as a part of the “we can do it offline exam” in order to secure their academic future amidst the pandemic.

Gaikwad further stated that the state government has been trying to conduct the examinations of standard 10th and 12th in a safe environment in view of the spike in COVID-19 cases. Meanwhile, on Thursday, March 11, a meeting on State Secondary and Higher Secondary Board examinations was held at Bal Bhavan on Charni Road in Mumbai. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary of School Education Vandana Krishna, Project Coordinator of SSC Board Dinkar Patil, Dinkar Temkar, Deputy Director Vikas Garad along with officers and teacher representatives of the concerned department.
