As per reports, two villages in the Thane district has arranged free Wi-Fi for the students so that they do not end up missing the online classes amidst the lockdown.

In areas where people do not have a good internet connection, this comes as a welcome move. According to Hindustan Times, in Dalkhan village, situated more than 60 km from Kalyan, Wi-Fi routers have been arranged in several parts so that the children can study from their homes and maintain social distancing during the pandemic. The common router is installed in Vehlonde and Dalkhan villages in Shahpur Taluka, Thane district.

Thane, which had earlier reported a surge in the cases of coronavirus has witnessed a decline. Data shows that in the month of July, an average of 352 patients was registered daily in Thane but the number reduced to 200 in August. The same increased in September whereby an average of 362 cases was recorded daily. However, the efforts put by the TMC has paid off, as the number of cases has been declining again in the last few days. Currently, over 100-120 new COVID-19 patients are being identified every day.

On the other hand, students appearing for the final-year examinations for the Mumbai University’s distance education faced a setback as several students failed to receive a question paper on the link provided. Moreover, as per reports, the official website would not open at 1 pm for several others delaying the process. As a result, students visited the campus stating their worries about losing an academic year negating the purpose of conducting the examinations online.
