In recent developments, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has been admitted to the hospital today. 

Therefore, students can expect a delay in the announcement of the decision regarding the class 12 examinations date and format. However, official confirmation is awaited.

The Centre was supposed to announce a decision with regards to the class 12 board examinations today, June 1 as earlier on Monday, May 31, on a plea hearing by the Supreme Court, the Centre requested two days’ time to take a final call regarding the same. 

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had earlier announced that the date and format for conducting CBSE, ICSE class 12 exams will be announced on June 1.

Update: On Tuesday, June 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the class 12 board examinations have been cancelled in view of the pandemic.

However, in recent developments, the education ministry informed that Pokhriyal has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi due to post COVID-19 complications. The Union Education Minister had earlier contracted the coronavirus on April 21 but resumed office after his recovery from the same. 

Meanwhile, earlier on May 31, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that it will make a decision with regards to the CBSE examinations 2021 for class 12.

According to reports, the top court was hearing a plea seeking directions to cancel the class 12 examinations of the CBSE and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, Attorney General K K Venugopal told the bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari that the decision would be taken in the next two days.
