Mumbai University library to stay open till late night

Now, the library at the Fort campus will stay open from 10:30 am to 9:45 pm. Whereas, the library will also stay open from 10:00 am to 5:45 pm on second and fourth Saturday as well as Sundays and public holidays

For the past several years, Mumbai University students have been struggling to convince the authorities to improve the quality of the University Library situated at the Fort campus’ Rajabai Tower. Alongside, they have also relentlessly demanded to extend the library timings. After unyielding efforts for years, finally, the authorities have agreed to keep the library open till 9:45 pm on weekdays. Alongside, they have also agreed to keep the library open on second and fourth Saturdays as well as Sundays and public holidays.

The students have also been persistent in voicing their demands and had asked for better maintenance of the library, the introduction of CCTV cameras, etc. In regard to the changes, the students had approached concerned officials and accordingly, Mumbai Live had published a report upon the same earlier. The in-charge registrar, Dr. Dinesh Kamble stated that the problems regarding the University library will soon be resolved.

Therefore, the library at the Fort campus will stay open from 10:30 am to 9:45 pm, November 16 onwards. Alongside, the library will also stay open from 10:00 am to 5:45 pm on second and fourth Saturday as well as Sundays and public holidays. The decision to amend the timings had cheered the students who can now use the library more often with ease.

Mumbai University has been bestowed with historical heritage and needs to be passed down to the upcoming generations. However, the present condition of the library is pathetic. Currently, the entire library has only four to five fans, which is really frustrating for the students. Therefore, we have approached the authorities and have asked them to take necessary steps as soon as possible,” said Soumit Salunkhe, an LLM student.
