On Saturday, March 26, the University of Mumbai issued a circular, asking all autonomous colleges to permit extra time to students to complete their papers, reports stated. Apart from this, the university has also asked them to ensure a considerable break between two examinations as well as told them to see to it that the timings are convenient for pupils to travel.

According to accounts, the circular was signed by Vinod Patil, director of the Board of Examination and Evaluation. The circular was addressed to the principals or heads of the autonomous colleges. This development comes in the aftermath of many students seeking relief from the upcoming examinations

The university is of the opinion that since students will be appearing for offline examinations after nearly two years, colleges should give them extra time to finish their papers. Moreover, since many students travel from far, their distance has been taken into consideration and the timings have been asked to be altered accordingly.

Back in February, the university had said that all summer 2022 examinations will be held in hybrid mode. On the other hand, all the undergraduate exams for the commerce, arts and science stream, as well as, backlog exams be conducted offline.

Later in the first week of March, the university said that semester 6 exams for traditional courses will be online, but those of professional courses will be offline. However, many autonomous colleges decided to impose offline exams all across, regardless.

Till now, the autonomous colleges were permitted to decide their course of action, however, the latest notification by Mumbai University has turned the tables.
