"It has been decided that the university will pay the entire educational fees of transgender students studying in the university and affiliated colleges," said Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil.
A state level special meeting was organised at Dr Homi Bhabha State University under the chairmanship of the Higher and Technical Education Minister regarding the implementation of the new National Education Policy. In this meeting, Principal Secretary of Higher and Technical Education Department Vikas Chandra Rastogi, Executive Director of Maharashtra State Teacher Development Institute Dr. Nipun Vinayak, Deputy Secretary Ajit Baviskar, Director of Higher Education Dr. Shailendra Devlankar, Director of Technical Education. Vinod Mohitkar, Vice-Chancellor of All Non-Agricultural Universities, Co-Director Prakash Bachhav, Chairman of National Education Policy 2020 Steering Committee Dr. Nitin Karamalkar, Principal Anil Rao, Vice-Chancellors of State Universities etc. all concerned officials were present.
Patil also appealed to the meeting that the universities should pay the entire educational fees of transgender students studying in the university and affiliated colleges from their own funds and take the initiative to get these students free higher education. Responding to this appeal, all the Vice-Chancellors accepted this decision. Therefore, transgender students will now be able to get free higher education in the university and affiliated colleges.
