Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, on Sunday, May 31, 2020, announced that the university examinations for final-year students were cancelled and they will be marked based on aggregates. Guidelines were discussed by the officials in a meeting and the same was earlier issued by the UGC.

Following this move, Yuva Sena sent a letter requesting Chief Ministers of several states to cancel the examinations for final-year students in many parts of India. This decision was taken following Cabinet Minister and Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray's instructions. Yuva Sena Secretary, Varun Sardesai took to Twitter to share the same with a message that read, "As instructed by @AUThackeray ji, Yuvasena has written to all Chief Ministers requesting cancellation of final year exams for the safety of students. Yesterday @CMOMaharashtra has given fair and decisive guidelines to do so. Health of our students should be our first priority."

Talking to Mumbai Live regarding this matter, Varun said, "When CM Uddhav Thackeray made the announcement regarding final-year university exams on May 31, it brought a sense of relief among the student community. But students from other universities from different states wrote to us, stating that they were facing similar concerns in their respective state. That's when we realised that if we have set a precedence here in Maharashtra, then every other state can follow. The concern is not the number of coronavirus cases, but the lockdown we have been, for over two months, where the infrastructure has crumbled. Most of the urban areas in the country are affected and the rural areas lack the infrastructure, and hence it would not be possible to conduct the exams. In any case, the educational year (academic year) has seen a change, and if the exams are conducted, the academic year would get pushed by three or four months. That is why demand was raised by the students, and keeping this Aaditya Thackeray asked us to request the states. Uday Samant has sought legal advise and this decision was taken only after that, considering the legal possibilities. We believe that if this can be done in a state as big as Maharashtra, then it can be replicated everywhere else, and we have sent an email to all the Chief Ministers. We hope to receive a positive response and change."

Addressing the concerns raised by students who have ATKT in universities across Maharashtra, Varun added that many have reached out to Yuva Sena and the ministers regarding the same. Though it is not legally possible to pass the students without exams, officials are looking into this matter to ensure the protocol is followed along with announcing a fair decision for the students.
