Veteran choreographer Saroj Khan made a controversial statement on casting couch in which she mentioned that the Indian film industry at least provides jobs and does not abandon women after raping them.

A journalist asked the 69-year-old choreographer to share her view on Telugu actor Sri Reddy who stripped in protest against the casting couch culture in the Telugu film industry. In reply to which she said,

This has been going on for ages. Everyone tries to get cozy with a girl. People in government do the same. Why are you after film industry? At least the industry provides employment. It doesn't abandon a woman after rape. (Yeh chala aa raha hai baba aadam ke zamaane se. Har ladki ke upar koi na koi haath saaf karne ki koshish karta hai. Government ke log bhi karte hain. Tum film industry ke peeche kyun pade ho? Woh kam se kam roti toh deti hai. Rape karke chhod toh nahi deti).

She further went on to say,

It is up to the girl, what she has to do. If you have the art, you don’t have to sell yourself. Don’t say anything to the film industry, it’s like our mother-father. When her statement received a lot of flak, she apologised for the same.

Khan, the National-Award winning choreographer,  is known for her famous songs such as Ek Do Teen and Choli ke Peeche.
