The good news for all the Mumbai folks out there during this festive season happens to be that author Rajesh Talwar is coming out with a children’s book about four children with unique abilities from different parts of the world who come together to fight powerful, dark forces.

The book titled as The Fabulous Four weaves a tale of a new and exciting adventure full of eastern story-telling magic from a noted screenplay writer and author of several books, lawyer Rajesh Talwar. He is also the author of the popular satire on the law criminalising homosexuality Inside Gayland. His more recent plays include Kaash Kashmir that examines the conflict in the valley and Gandhi, Ambedkar and the Four-Legged Scorpion, a historical play on Gandhi and Ambedkar.

We take this opportunity to list down below four more children’s book that has released in the past month and have been critiqued well by bibliophiles everywhere.

  • What Are Little Girls Made of? (Nosy Crow) by Jeanne Willis, illustrated by Isabelle Follath, happens to be a delightful amalgamation of bouncy feminist nursery rhymes. It answers the title question: “Sun and rain and heart and brain”, and features a Bo Peep who wades into slime to rescue her flock and a medically qualified queen who can put Humpty back together.
  • Nicola Davies’s Last (Tiny Owl) meanwhile motivated by the true story of Sudan, the last male northern white rhino who after losing his mother to poachers, lives in a near-monochrome environment with other “lasts” of their species.
  • Big Thoughts of Little Luv by Karan Johar is inspired by Director Johar’s own experiences as a parent. In the book, Karan, who became a single father to twins through surrogacy in 2017, explores the challenges every parent faces goes through. As per reports, the picture book will be published by Juggernaut Book and now can be pre-ordered on Amazon or Flipkart.
  • Rain Before Rainbows (Walker) by Smriti Halls and David Litchfield offers this dreamlike illustrative vision of this girl and a fox travelling from darkness and difficulty to a blaze of morning light.

Needless to say, even if it’s a gift or a coffee table piece, these books are a must-read during this season.
