Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) agitated against the theatres and multiplex in Thane’s Kalyan for not showing Marathi movies during prime time. MNS had reservations against cinema halls’ decision to screen Bollywood movie ‘Thugs of Hindustan’ and ditching Marathi movie called ‘Ani... Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar’.

In several multiplexes and single screen theatres in Kalyan, the prime time shows are dedicated to the Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan starrer ‘Thugs of Hindustan’ while the Marathi movie was given only one show at 3:00 in the afternoon.

MNS opined that Marathi movie ‘Ani... Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar’ is a big name for Marathi cinema and it should be screened at prime time hours.

MNS further, angrily, said that people living in Kalyan are mostly Marathi speaking and they are finding it hard to watch the Marathi movie because of fewer screens. If this Marathi movie gets the screen, it will fetch money too. However, this film is not able to reach the audience due to the multiplex and cinema halls owners.

Kalyan MNS President Kaustubh Desai said that if Marathi cinema doesn’t get space in film theatres during prime time, MNS will agitate.
