Ghazal Maestro Pankaj Udhas Passes Away At 73

Veteran Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas breathed his last at the age of 73 on February 26. He passed away after a prolonged illness. The family released a statement confirming the death of the ghazal maestro. 

The statement read: "With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February due to a prolonged illness. Udhas family."

The singer breathed his last at 11:00 am at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. If reports are to be believed, a few months ago, he was diagnosed with cancer. On Tuesday, February 27, the singer's last rites will be performed.

Pankaj Udhas, born on May 17, 1951, in Jetpur, Gujarat, his musical journey began at a young age. He released his first ghazal album, "Aahat," in 1980, marking the beginning of his career that would see him release over 60 solo albums and numerous collaborative projects. Songs like "Chitthi Aai Hai" from the film "Naam" (1986) and "Aa Gale Lag Ja'' solidified his position as one of India's leading ghazal singers.
