In a symposium organised on Monday, November 8, the Central Ministry of Tourism, in association with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B), proposed a film promotion office to facilitate timely shooting permissions. They also suggested a model film facilitation policy that all the states should follow.

This development came to attract tourists to visit Mumbai or Maharashtra after seeing it in movies. They also plan on encouraging states to make their land conducive to film shoots.

In 2015, I&B Ministry had set up a Film Facilitation Office in Delhi. It helped 120 international filmmakers from 27 countries to shoot in India.

According to reports, I&B secretary Apurva Chandra, at the symposium, said that the government will soon frame a draft model policy. It would be circulated to other states, and they will have to adapt these policies. These policies will encourage filmmakers to make films in India.

Compared to other countries, the cost to shoot films in India is lower. However, producers still go over overseas locations since they have friendly policies and get permission easily.

Tourism secretary Arvind Singh said that there is a need for all the states to consider establishing a film promotion office at the highest level and get the permission processed in time by coordinating with other departments, stated accounts.
