Today, the jury headed by Kannada film director Girish Kasaravalli announced that the film '2018: Everyone is a Hero' has been selected for the Oscars. The film will be eligible for the award only if it gets a place in the nomination list. The film '2018: Everyone is a Hero' is set against the backdrop of the 2018 floods that devastated parts of Kerala.
Before selecting Malayalam film '2018' for Oscars 2024, 'The Kerala Story' (Hindi), 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani', 'Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway' (Hindi), 'Baalgam' (Telugu), 'Valvi' ( Marathi), 'Bapalyok' (Marathi) and '16 August 1947' (Tamil) were being considered. Finally '2018' won and this film has been sent for an Oscar from India.
Directed by Jude Anthony Joseph, the film starred Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Srinivasan, Narayan and Lal in important roles. '2018' was released in May this year. The film received excellent response from critics and was a hit at the box office as well. It is the highest grossing Malayalam film of all time and one of the highest grossing Indian films of the year.
