Maharashtra has reported nearly 23 cases of heatstroke within just 28 days. However, no fatalities have been confirmed yet.

This development comes as heatwave like conditions have grappled the state since the beginning of March.

Moreover, as the temperatures are soaring further, of the total cases, 10 have been recorded in the last 10 days alone.

In view of this, health experts emphasised the urgent need to implement the government’s heatwave action plan, particularly in rural regions where cases and deaths occur frequently.

The worst-hit has been Amravati, with three cases reported, followed by two cases each in Raigad, Pune, Beed, Buldhana and Kolhapur. Additionally, Thane, Ahmednagar, Akola, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Dhule, Gadchiroli, Jalgaon, Nanded, and Satara have each reported one case.

While no official fatality has been reported, there is one suspected death in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where a 30-year-old man reportedly succumbed to heatstroke.

Although Mumbai has not yet observed heatwave-like situation, the nights are getting warmer, with higher humidity levels than during the day.

On Tuesday night, April 2, recorded a humidity level of 76 per cent, in contrast to 62 per cent during the day.

Besides, the weather department has warned Mumbaikars for scorching daytime temperatures as well.
