The activists were arrested on Saturday after gathering in large numbers near the Metro 3 car shed after the cutting of trees was initiated.

29 environmental activists who were detained on Saturday, were granted bail by the Bombay High Court on Sunday evening. The protestors had rushed at the Metro 3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz) car shed site after the authorities had started cutting trees on Saturday night.

The activists were arrested under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) which states that movement and gathering of groups are restricted in the particular areas. The families of the detained activists had filed a case against the police for assaulting and manhandling the activists. Notably, the detained people also included women activists and Adivasis. 

The women were taken to Byculla Police Station and the men were taken to another police station. Notably, the Supreme Court (SC) will urgently hear the Aarey case today on Monday, October 7. More information about the same is awaited.
